Kumojin: Software Development Expertise Scaling Internationally

A Family Startup with Global Ambitions

Founded in 2018 in Quebec City, Solutions Kumojin was born from the collaboration between Lukasz Kokot, CTO, and Santane Weill, CEO. Together, they combine deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of product challenges to support the company’s growth both in Quebec and internationally.

Specializing in cloud-based software application development powered by AI, Kumojin supports startups, non-profits, and international organizations in the design, deployment, and maintenance of digital products through its platform, Koddian.

“From the early years, we made the choice to pursue projects outside Quebec. International markets were part of our strategy from the start — to learn faster and build expertise across different environments.”
— Santane Weill, CEO, Kumojin

First Engagements in Silicon Valley

The company secured its first mandate in San Francisco with Looker, a fast-growing company later acquired by Google. The collaboration extended beyond the acquisition, continuing for over a year and a half — a testament to Kumojin’s expertise and the trust placed in its team.

Over time, Kumojin has also supported several companies and startups in e-commerce and AI in San Francisco, demonstrating its ability to work with organizations across multiple markets — including Gorgias and Xtrace, with whom collaborations are ongoing.

“These collaborations were a powerful learning accelerator, both technically and in how we collaborate and evolve complex products.”
— Lukasz Kokot, CTO, Kumojin

Europe: A New Growth Market

Building on its success in the United States, Kumojin expanded into Europe, starting with mandates in Ireland and Luxembourg, before growing active markets in France and the United Kingdom.

Kumojin supports companies such as Prediko, a fast-growing startup whose inventory management platform is transforming planning for e-commerce businesses.

The company also continues collaborations with organizations operating between Quebec and Europe, including Watershed Monitoring, a Quebec-based company with headquarters in Quebec City and Strasbourg.

“Kumojin is a partner of choice for WaterShed Monitoring, and we are very pleased to rely on the professionalism and expertise of their team.”
— Sonja Belmhel, WSK

A Quebec Startup with Global Reach

Kumojin brings together around twenty developers with an average of over 15 years of experience, combining hands-on expertise with strong capabilities in AI practices. Their projects span a wide range of sectors, including e-commerce, robotics, civil engineering, and events.

This pool of expertise is fueled by international experience, enabling Kumojin to showcase and export Quebec’s know-how globally.

This depth of experience also drives the development of internal solutions like Koddian — a software governance tool designed to ensure compliance, traceability, and risk management related to open-source components, whether for application maintenance, M&A processes, or certification.

“Koddian was born from a recurring need we saw among our clients: to better understand, manage, and secure the use of open source within their systems.”
— Lukasz Kokot, CTO, Kumojin

Next Step: Strengthening the European Presence

The company continues to grow under the leadership of a woman in tech who aims to leverage her experience and French roots to strengthen ties between Quebec and France.

Santane Weill is actively involved in France–Quebec ecosystems, serving as a board member and VP within organizations such as French Tech Montréal, the French Chamber of Commerce, and Hub Grand Est, helping reinforce connections between the two markets.

This year, Kumojin is participating in VivaTech as part of the Québec Tech delegation — an opportunity to further develop partnerships and deepen its presence in the European market.
