RegenEAU: Turning Wastewater into Energy, from Quebec to France

Behind every ambition, there is a partner.

Producing Hot Water from Wastewater

This is the bold idea behind RegenEAU, a Quebec-based manufacturing company specializing in the development of integrated solutions — hardware and software — to accelerate the energy transition.

Founded in 2018 by David Pineault, who led R&D and prototype development on his own for four years, the company now relies on a complementary founding team bringing together expertise in technology, business development, financial strategy, and industrial design. Under the S3nergy Inc. brand, RegenEAU designs and assembles its systems, which it markets directly in a B2B model.

Innovating in Quebec, Expanding into Europe

While the technology is ready, the Quebec market remains challenging. Regulatory frameworks for energy efficiency are evolving more slowly than in Europe, where requirements are already in place and actively shaping demand.

RegenEAU has therefore adopted a clear strategy: prioritize France as its first expansion market. A demonstrator is planned in Paris for summer 2026, followed by local production starting in 2027. The goal is to establish a strong European presence before returning to North America once regulatory conditions become more favorable.

This approach allows the company to test, validate, and accelerate the deployment of its technology in an environment where the energy transition is already supported by ambitious policies.

Structuring Growth

In 2023, RegenEAU was selected through the ESG call for applications of Startup in Residence, Desjardins’ accelerator program aimed at supporting companies with strong environmental and social impact. The company received a $250,000 investment as part of a $3.1 million funding round.

But the support goes beyond financing.

Through Desjardins’ accelerator program, RegenEAU benefits from tailored support aligned with its manufacturing reality: business model structuring, fundraising preparation, and operational optimization. A customized approach that aligns financial growth with technological development.

On a day-to-day basis, Desjardins Business also supports financial management, notably through factoring services — a key lever in the construction sector, where payment cycles are long.

As part of its European strategy, RegenEAU can also rely on the Desjardins office in Paris, which supports the creation of its subsidiary and facilitates connections with French financial institutions.

Accelerating the Transition

RegenEAU’s credibility continues to grow.

The company has signed a strategic agreement with ENGIE, a major player in the energy transition in France, to accelerate the deployment of its technology.

This agreement is the result of two years of work with the support of the Center of Excellence in Energy Efficiency (C3E), which, through its Energy Transition Economic Corridor, leveraged its network to finalize this agreement with Engie—specifically its subsidiary Ciec, a provider of efficient and carbon-free solutions. As one of RegenEAU’s investors from the very beginning, the C3E is a key partner in the company’s development in France.

These developments now pave the way for a new phase of growth.

What’s Next

By 2026, RegenEAU plans to:

  • Install a demonstrator in Paris
  • Launch two new products
  • Raise between $8M and $10M CAD

Behind this international ambition lies a clear vision — and a partner supporting structuring, financing, and expansion every step of the way.
